Intonation

Intonation means the guitar notes are perfectly in tune on all frets up and down the neck. Most noticeable as you play high notes past the 8th fret. Acoustic guitars do not have the means in which to adjust intonation.  To make adjustments see below.

  1. Tune the guitar
  2. Play strings open (no frets pushed down)
  3. Tune exactly to pitch desired
  4. Press down at 12th fret and pluck string
    A. Tuner should show exactly the same tuning
    B. Locate screw behind the Bridge Saddle
    C. If 12th fret is sharp (pitch is higher than open)
    – Turn screw to make string longer from the nut
    – Repeat from step 1 until the open string and 12th fret share the exact same tuning
    D. 12th fret is flat (pitch is lower than open)
    – Turn screw to make string shorter from the nut
    – Repeat from step 1 until the open string and 12th fret share the exact same tuning
  5. Repeat from step 1 for all strings
