Can you use a RCA to Coax adapter to connect an antenna signal to a RCA port on a tv?

Unfortunately, this setup won't work. While an RCA to Coax adapter does change the physical connector type, it does not convert the signal itself from coaxial to a format compatible with the RCA input.

Why Won't It Work?

  • Coaxial Connection Purpose: A TV's coaxial port is designed to handle antenna or cable signals. These signals must pass through the TV's internal tuner to be decoded into watchable content.
  • RCA Input Limitations: The RCA port on a TV is not equipped to handle the type of signal carried by coaxial cables. It cannot transmit the signal to the tuner for decoding.

The coaxial signal cannot be displayed on the TV via the RCA port without proper signal conversion.

Alternatives

You'll need a device like an external tuner or converter box to connect an antenna signal to a TV with only RCA inputs. These devices can decode the coaxial signal and output it in a format compatible with RCA connections.
